Acid-replacement chemicals strip concrete, brick and metal residue without the OH&S overhead of strong mineral acids. Built on buffered chemistry - typically urea hydrochloride or organic acids - they remove the same scale, laitance and lime build-up as hydrochloric acid on routine concrete-plant cleaning, but with far less fume, a lower hazard class (often non-DG) and a gentler effect on stainless and mild steel. That makes them well suited to enclosed wash bays and daily truck-mixer, agi-bowl and chute cleaning. Why use an acid replacement instead of hydrochloric acid?
Acid-replacement chemicals deliver the same scale-removal performance as HCl with significantly reduced fume, lower hazard class for transport (often non-DG), and gentler effect on stainless and mild steel. They're safer to store, ship, and handle while still meeting heavy-duty concrete-plant cleaning needs.
Are acid-replacement products dangerous goods?
Most acid-replacement chemicals stocked on Chem Connect are non-DG or low-hazard. The exact classification, UN number (where applicable), and packaging group are listed on each product page.
Do acid replacements clean as well as hydrochloric acid?
On routine concrete-plant soiling they clean within roughly 5-10% of HCl, with far less fume and handling hazard. Hydrochloric acid still has the edge on very heavy, long-set scale; our acid-replacement buyer guide covers the full comparison.
